We are currently working on the Parkgate Park and Ride Scheme in Rotherham for Tilbury Douglas Limited.
Phase 1 of the works started in March 2023 and was completed in May. The works required the remediation of a former derelict piece of land used for slag processing from the nearby steelworks to form the new park and ride area with associated highway and landscaping works.
The slag materials were excavated and processed on site by means of screening and crushing and then used to upfill levels. Former ponds were cleaned out and filled as part of the works.
The processed materials were cement modified in line with the earthworks specification to achieve the correct moisture values and compaction requirements.
A total of 36000 m3 of materials were excavated and processed on site. In addition to the site processed materials over 30000 tonnes or recycled granular materials were imported to site to make up the shortfall in the fill volume and to provide a capping to the completed highways.
The second phase of the works which started in July 2023 has involved undertaking the removal of contamination off site and completing all the roads and parking areas following completion of drainage, kerbing and ducting works.
Type 1 has been placed to all highways and parking areas in advance of the tarmac surfacing. A total of over 6000 tonnes of type 1 has been used on site to date.
Landscaping to the verges is being undertaken as part of our works. We have sourced the required topsoil locally and will be using around 2500 tonnes of topsoil within the landscaping works.
